If you ever wanted to feel like living like royalty, this is the place to stay. We had a "standard" room that was anything but. It was large with 20 foot ceilings, a crystal chandelier over the bed, flocked wallpaper, beautiful moldings, and an entire wall of closets. The bath was also large and all marble with double sinks. The staff, whether it was the front desk staff, the bartenders, maids, or waiters, were delightful and went out of their way to be helpful and friendly. We've traveled throughout Europe and must put this at the top of our list as the best hotel experience ever.

While the photos make the Imperial appear almost too gilded and grandiose, this is in fact a very comfortable, welcoming hotel of the old European style. My standard room was ornate but tastefully done with quality furnishings, new carpet and a superb bed. The thoroughly marbled bath area was equally impressive, though the choice of cool white and charcoal marble was a bit incongruous with the warm hues of the rest of the room. Entering the bathroom felt a bit like stepping into another dimension. Still, I was happy with the fixtures and all the creature comforts that were provided (robe, slippers, toiletries). Make sure to have the bellman show you the room's features. I waved off assistance (a guy thing) and it took me some time to figure out the electronic shutters on my own. The English-speaking staff were friendly and courteous, as one should expect, and I never found myself wanting for service. Perhaps the best feature of the Imperial is its location, walking distance to just about every notable landmark in or near Vienna's First District. While I've been to Vienna several times, this was my first stay at the Imperial, and I hope to reprise my stay there next visit.
