The resort is high up on a hilltop. Take a shuttle up and down the hill or walk the 98 steps. The resort is having financial trouble right now, even heard it on the news while down there. The resort is broken down into many separate buildings. Buildings very nice and clean. The air conditioning broke the day we arrived and we had to change rooms. We (and many others) had to search many rooms to find one that had working a/c and tv's. They also had cable problems. Beach is very rocky. Have to climb over rocks to get into/out of water. Pool is very nice. Games for all. Clean, all inclusive buffets with good food although it's very repetitive. Large friendly Iguanas, ducks and birds walking around the pool area. The iguanas even jump onto your lounge chairs. Employees are very happy, friendly people. They will go out of their way for you. We are waiting for credit for switching rooms (downgraded) but doubt we will ever see it. We went for a wedding that was on the beach and truly amazing and beautiful. It was a great first time experience but I'd visit somewhere else before I'd ever go back there. No night life at all besides a small casino. Snorkling was awesome.

Upon arrival front desk personnel was friendly and helpful, complimentary rum punch on arrival was great. Bell service was helpful and friendly. Shuttle transport was very hit and miss, sometimes you had to wait very long to be picked up. Room was clean and comfortable upon arrival. It was a challenge if you requested extra towels or blankets, my request has still not been fulfilled despite calling the front desk three times, finally I just gave up.

My husband and I go to the SugarBay every year. We often take friends, as well. They have all said it is a very relaxing and laid back vacation. No high expectations please, as you are now on 'island' time!! Food is good, drinks are great. Great pool, swim up bar and nice sandy beach. There is casual, fun entertainment. We find this the best place to relax and meet new friends.

We read the reviews, and took the negative comments with a grain of salt.  We tend to be more tolerant than most, and have a good idea of reasonable expections for a tropical resort.  After 8 days, we would never go back. We booked this as an anniversary trip with vow renewal.  The wedding planner was nice, but coordination with her was complicated by the fact that it took 4 days for the phone in our room to be repaired.  Still the beach, though small, was a beautiful place to have our renewal.  We tried to make the whole day special, including going to the NICE restaurant, Blue Currant, for dinner that night.  As luck would have it, the A/C was out.  It was miserably hot in there.  Of course, I'm the only shmuck in a tie.  I thought it was supposed to be a nice place, but others were in shorts and a t-shirt. It occurred to me that I shouldn't be surprised that the A/C didn't work.  The hot tub was just a tub, because the heater had been broken for weeks according to staff.  The ice cream machine at Mangrove didn't work all week, nor did the popcorn machine.  The elevator at the end of the hall from our room only worked for one day in the middle of our stay.  And let's not forget our phone. The website advertises 5 dining choices, but 1 (Biting Shark?) doesn't even exist, and only 2 of the others were ever open on any given night.  Which 2?  You'll have to go down to the front desk to pick up the daily printout to find out.  Fear not!  One of those will always be the mediocre buffet.  You get one option (buffet) for breakfast and just one for lunch as well.  8 days is just way too long to stay someplace with so few dining options.  At least if we hadn't paid for the all-inclusive, we wouldn't have felt wasteful going out to eat... and drink!  The drink choices are not the best either. Daytime activities were scarce, and nighttime entertainment even more so.  Even the in room TV reception was unreliable.  Bring a book. On a positive note, the view from our room was breathtaking and the pool is pretty awesome.
